We got home from Florida and picked up the dogs at the kennel and they mixed up the dogs. We have normally Dodger's hair cut so he doesn't get too hot in the summer.

Tomorrow, Martin and I will fly to Florida for a few days. He has to work and I have to have fun:)
We are going to Ft Walton Beach, which is on the Golf Coast. The hotel is directly on the beach.
Light packing is required.
I am very excited and also sad, because my dogs have to be kenneled :(
Oh well. It will be only for a few days.
I am still walking in my boot, so all I am taking is ONE shoe and a pair of flip-flops:)

The week after that, I will have shoulder surgery. But that's still over a week away...

Nebraska's hidden treasures

I was looking through some pictures and found this postcard:

I don't know when I bought it or better WHY but it definitely shows a beautiful part of NE...!??!

And yes, there are many things I like about living here. One of the biggest pros are the people. The peeps here are so friendly and open, it is easy to feel at home.

What do you like about Nebraska?

Had an interesting two weeks. On one hand I am happy to report that my ankle is getting better. It's been "only" 8 weeks...

But last week I had the pleasure to go to the dentist. I hate going to the dentist, because it always means PAIN.

Anyway, I had a root canal done and thought I was out of the danger-zone (pain-zone) when I started to have major pain, just a couple of teeth over. He put me on an antibiotic, but it wouldn't budge first and he said he might have to pull the tooth (just one of my front teeth so no biggy) but would give the meds two more days to kick in and I started praying for my tooth, no kidding. And after those two days, the pain subsided. It is still not gone, but I am still taking those lovely pills and hope to God it will all be good in the end.

Other than that there is not much going on. I am dying to do some gardening, but I found out that a boot over a sprained ankle is not the perfect garden attire and it is hard to replant hostas.

Just have to wait and do it later.

Today it is rainy and perfect to cuddle up with my two fuzzy friends and stay inside.

Martin is out hunting. He is trying to get a turkey. I was first torn about the whole hunting thing, but after tasting a fresh and well smoked turkey, I change my mind and he is out there more for the fun than the shooting. He tells me about all the animals he sees close up that I want to go along and I will probably this fall.

Oh an I have to pack my bags today. CC is travelling to Floria:) Martin has to go for work and invited me to come along. We will stay in a hotel right on the beach...it will be hard-ship. But I will make it through it with some good books and my knitting.

Well, now it's time to go back to cuddling:)

A dog's life...from rescue dog to legwarmer

To all that don't know him. This is Dodger or Mr. D as we call him.

He is a rescue dog from the Jack Russell Terrier Rescue in Omaha

We got Mr.D when he was 11 years old. He was given up twice before and we just recently found out that he has bee-bee shots in his chest...

Dodger will turn 14 on the first of July and a few months ago we thought we would loose him to a liver desease. He is better now, but he is getting older.

Dodger is very food-protective and we had several fights in the house where he attacked Mr. Whiskers...not good, but we have figured out what triggers him and have it under control.

Other than that he is the most wonderful and beautiful dog (yes, I am subjective:). Very loyal and loving and we hope that he is given a few more years before he goes to doggy heaven.

I have been neglecting my blog for so long and I am really ashamed.

Part of the reason is that it was always meant to be a cycling blog, but I haven't done much cycling in the last year.

Now I am realizing it doesn't have to be about cycling, even though I will get back in the saddle sometime in the future.

I have other interests and there is always something to write about.

My two dogs, my knitting, my gardening and my plan to make a quilt (well that'll be some time, but I have gotten a seweing machine from a friend and I have it repaired this week....)

My first spring bulbs are blooming: snow drops, and others are poking their first green out. No pictures due having a hurt left foot. Walking is nearly impossible even with boot and crutches:(
Tomorrow we are supposed to hit 70F (20C) and I am sure nature will explode into colors other than grey and brown.
Martin dropped of my X-rays at the Orthopedist and I will hopefully be seen soon.

I have been trying to find good mantras for meditating and above is a good one AND it is something that I have been thinking about and decided nowto make it public

I am not riding outside at the moment but I get aqqaintaned with my road bike in the bassment as stationary bike.

I have also done some XC skiing and hope to do some more with a bit more snow.

I didn't have a good year last year and gained quite a bit of weight, but it is waht it is now and 2010 is a new start,,,,,,so here I come.

I want to use my blog as a platform to share my progress and maye get some motivation from other.

BUT, I am doing better and I am back on the bike. Doing baby steps so to say. The technical skills are mostly still there but my fitness.....(no comment)

I went to Swanson today and it was gorgeous. I have missed out on so much.

But, I am trying to get back in shape and I would love to race again next season, so my preparations have just begun:)

I took the dogs for a walk today, as usual in my flip-flops and got pulled...

And ran into a branch of Honeylocust thorns laying on the trail...
It hurt and I could hardly walk on it. Martin had to get some tools from the basement to get it out. Normal tweezers weren't strong enough.
Finally he got it out and I couldn't believe what I saw:

The piece of thorn is over 1/2 inch long. No wonder it HURT.

The foot is still sore:(

Trouble in the Fields

I heard a beautiful song this morning. The amazing thing is it was recorded 11 years ago, 1998, but it is so fitting.
The singer is Maura O'Connell.

Mr. Whiskers is doing much better. Finally....4 vet visits later, his stitches are removed and he is besides a few scars and a bold spot almost back to normal (as normal) as a Jack Russell Terrier gets:)

We are enjoying fre(ak)ezing temperaturs, but that's Nebraska for you in the winter.

I started knitting socks and I have actually a sock finished to show off

This is my brother Stephan. I took this picture last November while visiting my family in Germany. I can't believe that it has been a year already...
I haven't made it to Germany this year due to the high gas/flight prices, but I am hoping to go there sometime soon.

My brother in the meantime is working in Africa. If you look on the world map on the left side on my blog and look where folks are logging in from, you can see, where he is at:)
He is south of the equator, so he is heading into Summer...lucky him.

We are getting ready for winter. The leaves are raked and all my beloved (NOT) walnuts are gone. I still have about 100 bulbs to plant. I have the same amount planted. I hope we will have enough mild weather, so I can get them in over the next few weeks.

As many of you know, I haven't been a very faithful blogger recently.
The lack of my entries proof that.
Excuses...maybe working at a computer company and sitting in front of a screen (I have actually two) for 10 hours a day makes one, kind a type-lazy.

Having added Dodger to the Fuzzy Monsters and having three to take care of and love takes some time.

But I think, the biggest reason was that feel bad, because this is supposed to be a bike blog and I took a break from biking so, what else to write about??
Even though I have so many other things going on in my life....

I am still digging in the dirt and adding more flowers and plants.

I started to make jewelry. I don't have pictures yet. I will post some, once I have taken a few shots.

I heard from two friends from Germany that found me through this blog and that made me realize how important it is to keep this one going!!

Some people already know but it is about time to spill the beans.

I am going back to school. I found out that my employer, pays a good chunk of my tuition and I decided that I want to go back to Law School.
I found an online program, Concord Law School which allows me to work full time and go to school.
It is a four year program and I want to go for the Juris Doctorate Degree Program. (JD)

After that I could sit for the Bar, but that is loooong ways down the road.

Anywho, that is my plan. Pretty crazy, but I can't get it out of my head and I have to give it a try.

We broke the heat record for this summer and the 100 degrees....yak.

I got up early to walk to dogs, but even at 9 am the heat index was over 90.

Dodger, our 11 year old newest addition doesn't like the heat and probably the humidity either.

Well, who does, but he moves definitely slower since it got hotter.
We haven't officially adopted him but we want do, so we are hoping that he doesn't have any major medical problems...

For now, we are going to bed. Mornings come early for me now. I got a new shift and start working at 7am. That is early but I get off at 5.30 pm and that will give me time in the evenings to do stuff.

Have I mentioned that I am planning on going back to school?

The dream team has a new member: Dodger

Well, for right now he is here on "probation". He comes from the Jack Russell Terrier Rescue
We adopted Pepper from there and now Dodger is visiting.
He is an 11 year old male and very well behaved. He has been at the Rescue for over 6 months. We don't know why, he is such a good dog and deserves a good home...

Well, we might just have to keep him:)

Green Team at work

Well, I do have a Green Team at home, but we do also have a Green Team at work to help the environment and reduce our carbon foot print.
My company does a lot and we are constantly trying to improve things to go "greener"
Our Omaha Team, just collected enough money to replace a gas guzzling truck with an electrical golf cart for our security team to patrol our parking lot.
Our headquarters in San Jose, CA have a building that is powered by Solar Panels and the building materials inside a for a big part recycled.
My big concern is our high consumption of plastic cups that not recyclable:(
We do need to get rid of those.
